Our sweet girl turned one month old on Saturday and just like that, it was the end of the most wonderful month of our lives. We are loving every second of our life with her and wish time would slow down… but it only seems to go faster now that we’re parents. Olivia has been busy growing and we’re so amazed at how much she has changed in such a short time. She is getting so chubby, she is super alert, and she just loves it when we talk to her and comb our fingers through her head full of hair.
As I was thinking back to her first month of life these last few days, I realized I never blogged Olivia’s newborn session. When I was pregnant so many people asked me if I was excited to do Olivia’s newborn photos and they were surprised when I told them I had actually booked a newborn photographer to do them. I guess most people assumed that as a photographer myself, I’d want to photograph my own baby. Now, of course we planned to photograph our sweet girl ourselves as much as we could, but I really wasn’t sure if I’d be feeling well enough to be bending over, crouching down, lifting, etc., just days after our baby’s birth, all in a studio warmed up to 85 degrees, plus most importantly, I also wanted us to have the experience of a newborn session as first-time parents with photos of us holding our baby. Not only that, but the photographer we’d want to photograph us books up months in advance so I didn’t want to take a risk that she’d be booked when it was time for Olivia’s session. Call me crazy but I ended up booking our newborn photographer back in August as soon as we returned from our trip to Portugal and I had wrapped up my first trimester. I’m so glad we did because everything turned out just wonderfully!
For Olivia’s newborn session, we booked our dear friend Megan Curren. I met Megan years ago through her mother-in-law who is a former colleague of mine from back when I was teaching. I’ve captured many life events for Megan and her family so it was only fitting for her to capture us during this amazing time. Her work is gorgeous and fits so well with the type of newborn photography that I love – I wanted a set of images that would be timeless, and I knew Megan would do that for us. Just like in my own newborn photography, Megan is very selective in the set-ups she creates and focuses on the baby while incorporating organic colors and rich textures while avoiding the use of crazy props that will make images look outdated in a short time. Megan did a wonderful job showcasing our little love and I just adore every single image she created for us. We’re so excited to add the images she took of us to the wall art gallery we are creating in Olivia’s nursery. I’ll be sharing more of that on my newborns Instagram so follow me there for updates but for now, here are just some of my favorite images of Olivia at just 10 days old!
Thank you to Megan for being so wonderful with our little Olivia. You were so patient with her, even when she was wide awake and pooped all over one of your set-ups! We love how you treated our little girl and made her feel so cared for. You froze time for us with these images and I know we’ll look back at them often as we miss the days when she was so tiny and new. We will treasure these images forever!! xoxo
