Hi, I’m Alex, lead photographer and owner of Idalia Photography. I’ve been photographing newborns for over eight years but I didn’t grow up with a camera in my hands. In fact, I majored in French Literature with a minor in Spanish Literature and planned to become a translator and interpreter. Instead, my life’s path led me to becoming a high school teacher and I taught Spanish and French for fourteen years, but in 2016, I followed my heart and left teaching to pursue my passion for discovering beautiful love stories, documenting genuine moments, and capturing timeless images along the way.
My goal as a newborn photographer is to make this one aspect of welcoming your newborn simple. Photography is more than just images - it’s a real part of the arrival of your new little one. Not only do you deserve beautiful images, but you also deserve an amazing photographic experience. When my couples and babies feel comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera, that results in memorable images!
When you think back to the arrival of your new baby, I want you to remember how little they once were. This time is priceless and your maternity and newborn images are a huge part of your experience as parents. My goal is not only to capture memories for my clients, but it’s also to help create an experience that will be enjoyable for you and for your baby and his/her older siblings, too!
When I’m not documenting beautiful love stories and tiny newborns, I find my purpose through being a wife to Jay and mother to Olivia. We live in Howell, in the house that I grew up in, and every day we love to take a pause from our busy lives, chat about life, and wonder at Livie’s latest milestones!

I lost my mother to cancer when I was 25 years old and when I developed an interest in portrait photography, she was the first person I photographed, and Idalia Photography became a tribute to her memory. Idalia was her middle name and serves as a constant reminder of why I do what I do.
I don’t take anything for granted. Ever since losing my mother I have learned to be grateful for everything I have. There are endless things I am thankful for on a daily basis and I feel so fortunate to be where I am in this season of life.
I love to travel. I’ve been to thirty-nine countries and have lived abroad on three different occasions. I fell in love with my husband while traveling 1,800 miles during a 5 day road trip and decided he was the one during a 6 week backpacking trip.
My favorite part of being a newborn photographer is getting to experience the excitement about welcoming a new baby. It brings me back to welcoming my own daughter into our family and I can't wait to create images for my clients that will help them remember how special this season of life truly is.
